According to The Verge, Voxel should be able to tidy the house by putting objects back in their place, water plants, fetch a book or help find a lost item, such as the remote control. You would simply ask it where it last saw the item.

Tuesday Labs describes it as a “droid butler”. The reservation costs 200 dollars, and the full price should be around 20,000 dollars when the robot is delivered, at some point in 2028.

The Voxel Series-1 moves on two Z-shaped legs, with knees that bend the opposite way to ours. This lets it keep its balance and raise or lower its height in front of cupboards, tables and shelves.

To grasp objects, it relies mainly on two articulated arms with seven degrees of freedom. They end in grippers that are much simpler than the fingered hands of other humanoid robots.

The Verge notes that the Tuesday Labs website goes into great detail on the robot's design and hardware, but says far less about what it will actually be able to do and what it will bring to the home.

Update on 22 October: Tuesday Labs is led by its founder, Rosalind Shinkle. At Boston Dynamics, she designed the arm manipulation software for the Spot robot.
