# Wildfires: autonomous launcher throws capsules of about 10 gallons of water or retardant

> California start-up FireDome has installed its first demonstration system in Yuba County, California, The Robot Report reports.

The robot does not fire rigid shells. It launches soft capsules. Each holds about 10 gallons of liquid: water or a retardant product.

The capsules do not burst on hitting the ground. A mechanism triggers them slightly above it, to soak a precise area such as a roof or a strip of land.

The system fires without waiting for a human order. The customer and firefighters can nonetheless stop it remotely, says Gadi Benjamini, co-founder and CEO of FireDome.

The test site in Yuba County is used to demonstrate the system to several fire services, the company says.
