Sensor fusion
- In French:
- Fusion de capteurs
Definition
Combining the measurements of several sensors to obtain an estimate more reliable than that of each one taken alone, for example a robot’s position from wheel encoders, an inertial measurement unit and a GPS. Each sensor has its flaws: an inertial unit drifts with time, wheel encoders drift with the distance travelled. By combining them, often with a Kalman filter, these flaws are made to compensate for one another.
