Lithium-ion battery
- In French:
- Batterie lithium-ion
- Abbreviation:
- Li-ion
Definition
A rechargeable battery in which lithium ions move between two electrodes, generally a graphite anode and a cathode based on metal oxides. Lithium is the lightest of the metals and offers the best electrochemical potential, which allows a lot of energy to be stored for a given mass. In return, an internal fault or a short circuit can cause thermal runaway.
