The D-Pack Lab is designed as a “Model Factory”, that is, a simulated company. According to Comau, it complements the institute's courses to prepare students for the real needs of production workshops.

Comau acted as integrator. In this simulated factory, design, machining by chip removal served by robots fitted with vision systems, additive manufacturing and quality control share a single continuous flow of information.

The project received PNRR funds earmarked for technical and vocational education. It falls within a national framework of collaboration between Comau and the Istituti Tecnologici Superiori.

To make the institute self-sufficient in running the cell, Comau Academy offers training for instructors, as well as access to its online platform, the Comau Web Academy.
