Chose from La Famille Addams inspired this robotic hand, which uses its fingers as legs. With those same fingers, it has learned to move across different surfaces, press keys, push small objects and get back up after a fall.

It has even completed a level of Sokoban, a puzzle video game, by pressing the arrow keys on a keyboard.

During testing, the hand crossed 14 types of surface, indoors and outdoors: asphalt, metal, tiles, grass, gravel and even damaged stone.

It weighs only 818 grams and works autonomously, without the rest of a robot's body.

According to the researchers, a larger robot could place it on a support near a narrow opening. The hand would then travel to a control or an object, use it, then return to be picked up.
