Buddy, the 60 cm companion robot that goes from joy to sulking
Built by Blue Frog Robotics, Buddy is a small social robot designed for schools, older people and public reception.
Buddy stands 60 cm tall. According to Blue Frog Robotics, it has large, bright eyes and a broad smile, and its official page presents it as a companion built to encourage conversation.
The manufacturer says the robot expresses a whole range of emotions, from joy to bad temper, to make interactions feel more natural.
Among the testimonials published on the page is one from Melvin, an 8-year-old pupil in hospital, who says he feels as if he is with his class when he is with Buddy.
Blue Frog Robotics says it designs its social robots for education, inclusion, care of older people and hospitality.
The robot runs on an open platform based on Android, with a development kit that lets programmers create new applications for it.
