The transfer took place at the L-Tower in Seoul, at the 2026 edition of a technology-sharing event organised by the Ministry of Industrie and Commerce with Samsung Electronics. Yoon Sung-hwan, an executive at Samsung Electronics, handed the patent transfer certificate to Hwang Jang-seon, chief executive of Power Auto Robotics.

The i-Series is automation equipment built on Cartesian robots. It inserts and press-fits electronic components of varied shapes. According to Robot Newspaper, it relies on AI vision and precision control to chain together part recognition, assembly, quality control and tracking of production data.

The company wants to add an autonomous movement function to these machines, which are currently fixed. It is also working to link them to autonomous mobile robots (AMR), collaborative robots, humanoids and a supervision system.

In the longer term, Power Auto Robotics is aiming for a “self-reconfiguring manufacturing system”, in which production modules move and line up on their own to form a new line.

Kang Nam-hyun, a director at Power Auto Robotics, says automation has so far mainly replaced human labour and the transport of materials. In his view, production equipment itself will now move and reorganise as processes change.
