Teradyne, parent of Universal Robots, invests in Bright Machines to bring its robots into production
US company Teradyne, parent of Universal Robots, has made a strategic investment in Bright Machines, a California specialist in software-driven manufacturing, South Korea's Robot Newspaper reports, citing The Robot Report.
The two companies say they intend to integrate Teradyne's technologies into Bright Machines' production environments. The project covers robotic precision assembly, unloading of test equipment and autonomous movement of materials.
They hope to deploy these technologies at Bright Machines' sites and those of its customers. Bright Machines' platform, Universal Robots' cobots and Teradyne's board test systems would work together there.
According to James Davidson, head of AI at Teradyne, robots able to learn a new task in a few hours, rather than after several weeks of re-engineering, would make high-mix, small-batch production the norm.
Based in Burlingame, California, Bright Machines says it has built more than 130 micro-factories in more than 10 countries. It also produces equipment for AI infrastructure in the United States.
