API (application programming interface)
- In French:
- API (interface de programmation)
- Abbreviation:
- API
Definition
A set of functions and rules that a piece of software makes available so that other programs can use it, rather than a person through a graphical interface. It works like a contract: the calling program knows what to send and what it will receive in return. For a robot, the API determines what a developer can command or read without going through the manufacturer’s app.
