Depth camera
- In French:
- Caméra de profondeur
Definition
A camera that measures, for each point of the image, the distance separating it from the scene, and so produces a depth map in addition to, or instead of, the colour image. Two principles dominate: stereoscopy, which compares two offset views, and time of flight, which times the trip of a light signal. A robot uses it to spot obstacles, locate objects to grasp or rebuild a room in three dimensions.
