Grasping
- In French:
- Préhension
Definition
The act of seizing an object and holding it still relative to the hand or gripper, through contacts and friction. A grasp is said to be form closure when the geometry of the contacts alone prevents any movement, and force closure when it also relies on friction. Manipulation goes further: pushing, sliding or carrying an object without necessarily grasping it.
