Siemens opens 5 factories in China to its partners' humanoid trials, without building robots itself

At an industry trade fair in China, Siemens put a wheeled humanoid to work with machine tools on its stand, Chinese outlet TMTPost reports.

According to TMTPost, Siemens is opening 5 of its factories in China, and 6 types of real production scenario, to its partners' robots. The partners can run trials and validation there.

On the stand, the wheeled humanoid moved around on its own under centralised control. Using a robotic arm or an articulated hand, it picked up parts, simulated loading a machine, then returned to set the parts down.

Siemens' digital factory in Nankin is already testing a wheeled robot to feed automated lines. According to its general manager, Zhou Yurong, its two arms can carry up to 50 kilos.

Zhou Yurong admits the project is still at proof-of-concept stage and that humanoids have a long way to go before they enter the factory.

Achim Peltz, who heads Siemens' digital industries business for Grande China, says the group does not build humanoid robots. Siemens helps manufacturers design and industrialise their robots, then helps customers integrate them into their lines.
