Definition
The reliability level of a safety function carried out by the control part of a machine, in the sense of ISO 13849-1. The standard gives a method to design and integrate these safety-related control parts, software included, and to verify that they reach the required level, denoted PLr. It does not itself set the required level for a given application: that follows from the risk analysis.
