Visual odometry

Definition

Estimation of the movement of a robot, a vehicle or a person from the images alone of one or more onboard cameras. The principle is the same as wheel odometry: successive displacements are added up, calculated here by tracking characteristic points from one image to the next. The term dates from 2004.
