SLAM (simultaneous localization and mapping)

In French:
SLAM (localisation et cartographie simultanées)
Abbreviation:
SLAM

Definition

The problem, for a robot, of building the map of an unknown environment while estimating its own position within that map. The two tasks depend on each other: a map is needed to locate oneself, and one must know where one is to build the map. SLAM can rely on a lidar, on cameras or on both.
