No cab, no one on board: two Einride electric trucks carry freight daily in Ohio

Einride and EASE Logistics have announced that autonomous electric trucks now carry freight every day between EASE warehouses in Marysville, Ohio, Robotics & Automation News reports.

Einride's two trucks, which have no cab, follow programmed routes on the EASE site and on local public roads between the company's facilities.

No one is on board. An operator monitors each truck remotely and can step in if needed. Launched last month, the deployment is generating data on safety, reliability and efficiency.

Both companies rate the trucks at level 4 on the SAE automation scale.

The deployment is part of the Truck Automation Corridor Project, a multi-year, 8.8 million dollar programme launched in 2021 by the Ohio and Indiana transport departments (ODOT and INDOT) with DriveOhio.

Henrik Green, Einride's chief technology officer, says the daily service gives the company the evidence it needs to extend autonomous freight along the corridor and beyond.
