A macaron robot that moves its ears: in Tokyo, novices build Robokko from a kit
In Shibuya, a project introducing "physical AI" began with a workshop where everyone assembled a small robot from a kit, reports the Japanese site Robotstart, whose journalist built one too.
The Robotstart journalist was building his first robot. The result is shaped like a yellow macaron, with a screen in the centre. When you press it, two white ears start to move.
The program supplied as standard has other reactions. Lying on its side, the robot shows a sleeping face. If you shake it, its eyes spin in a spiral. Humans set these reactions, and you can change them by rewriting the program.
The next stage of the project has participants build Open Duck Mini v2, a duck robot that walks on two legs. These sessions do not have a date yet. According to Shunta Iketaki of Algomatic Dynamics, the Raspberry Pi, the small computer needed for the build, is in short supply worldwide.
The launch event was held on 22 October 2026 at SAKURA DEEPTECH SHIBUYA, a venue for start-ups. It was organised with Algomatic Dynamics and Gomi Hayakawa.
