95% success reported on rat tails: the M1 blood-draw robot becomes a medical device
Chinese company Aixam says its M1 robot, which can draw blood on its own, has been registered as a medical device and will go on sale.
According to the company, M1 succeeded in 95% of blood draws in a trial on the tail veins of rats. The previous record for a similar product, published in an international scientific journal, was 83.9%.
The information comes from the Korean site Robot Newspaper, which cites Chinese state media outlet Renmin Wang. In it, Aixam announces the official registration of its robot and its launch on the market.
According to Robot Newspaper, M1 is the third venous blood-draw robot in the world to receive such registration as a medical device.
The robot detects veins and locates them in 3 dimensions, even in a cluttered environment. It could also be used for puncture procedures other than blood draws.
Aixam is based in Chengdu. Since its founding in 2022, it has relied on an algorithm research team led in part by specialists from Tsinghua University.
