Definition
The component that produces the movement of a joint from a source of energy, most often electrical. In a robot it is usually a motor combined with a gearbox, a position sensor and its control electronics. The torque and speed it delivers, together with the friction in its transmission, determine what the robot can carry and how fine its movements are.
