DDS (Data Distribution Service)

Definition

A standard from the Object Management Group that describes a data-centric publish-subscribe communication model for applications distributed across several machines. It also defines quality-of-service rules that govern message delivery. ROS 2 uses DDS as its communication layer, and several implementations from different vendors can be chosen.
