Overview

Spot is a quadruped robot designed by the American manufacturer Boston Dynamics. It is aimed at professional service, for inspection and maintenance.

According to the manufacturer, Spot weighs 33.8 kg (net mass, with battery) and is 500 mm wide. Its maximum speed is 1.6 m/s and its payload is 14 kg. Its battery has a capacity of 564 Wh, and its protection rating is IP54, again according to the manufacturer. The manufacturer also states autonomous navigation. According to heise online (Roboter) and Futurism, the robot is fitted with a camera.

On the software side, the manufacturer states support for ROS 2 through an open source driver repository. This repository is not presented as an official Boston Dynamics package.

Among similar robots, D1 MaxPro offers a 2,081 Wh battery, an IP67 rating and a 50 kg payload, against 564 Wh, IP54 and 14 kg for Spot. X30 reaches 4 m/s for 56 kg, while Spot is rated at 1.6 m/s and 33.8 kg. Like Spot, it has a camera and autonomous navigation.

Unitree B2 reaches 6 m/s, with a 2,250 Wh battery and a weight of 60 kg. It is also fitted with a camera. Unitree B1 lists a 932.4 Wh battery and a weight of 50 kg.
