Orboh says it has got an Unitree G1 humanoid to spot okra outdoors, then reach out to grab it. The trial was run with the research institute of Toyota Auto Body, on a farm in Kagoshima prefecture.

This was not a laboratory. In the field, the wind shakes the okra, sunlight changes how it looks and leaves hide part of the fruit.

For the task, the robot was given an attachment that holds a cutting tool on its right hand. A harvest basket hangs from its left arm.

The trial lasted 3 months, from June to September this year. Orboh also states a development period of 70 days.

According to Orboh, the basic movement of the arm reaching towards the okra relies on conventional control. Artificial intelligence is used only for the final adjustment of position.
