Overview

The TurtleBot 4 is a wheeled mobile robot designed by Clearpath Robotics for research and education, programming included.

According to the manufacturer, its maximum speed is 0.31 m/s, the same for the Standard and Lite versions. Also according to the manufacturer, the TurtleBot 4 Standard weighs 3.9 kg and the TurtleBot 4 Lite 3.3 kg. The robot is fitted with a camera, a lidar and a Raspberry Pi 4B (4 GB) onboard computer, according to the manufacturer.

On the software side, the manufacturer states compatibility with ROS 2 and names the Jazzy distribution for the simulation package. A simulation in Gazebo Harmonic is offered, with an official 3D model: the ros-jazzy-turtlebot4-simulator package installs through apt. The manufacturer also mentions C++ and Python APIs, presented in a tutorial on ROS 2 nodes in the manual.

Among similar robots, the Jackal is given a maximum speed of 2 m/s, against 0.31 m/s according to the manufacturer for the TurtleBot 4 (comparison of the TurtleBot 4 and Jackal). The Warthog is described with an onboard PC on which ROS is preinstalled and configured, whereas the TurtleBot 4 uses a Raspberry Pi 4B.
